The Martin High School Band, “The Pride of Southwest Arlington,” has been a top award winning program since it began in 1982. The band averages 280 students in Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band 1, Concert Band 2 and Varsity Band. The program also includes two award winning Jazz Bands, Color Guard and Drumline. The band has been a consistent Sweepstakes UIL winner, as well as, a three time State UIL Marching Contest participant. The five concert bands have won numerous awards and trophies around the country. The concert and jazz bands participate in several concerts a year including winter, mid-winter, spring and UIL Concert Contests. The Department of Fine Arts at James Martin High School includes the Band, Choir, Orchestra, Drama, Speech and Visual Arts departments. The program provides possibilities for students to develop their intellectual, creative, and expressive capabilities. Experiences in art, music and theater arts help students become knowledgeable about the individual contribution of each of these areas to the development of civilization and the specific modes of communication unique to the arts.
