| Jennifer Burns
New to the Martin Band staff in 08-09 is Assistant Band Director, and Coordinator of Percussion Studies for the Martin Cluster, Ms. Jennifer Burns. Ms. Burns is a resident of Texas but has lived the last few years in Colorado, where she was Battery Caption Head for Arvada West High School. Prior to her tenure at Arvada West, Ms. Burns taught percussion lines at various Texas 5A high schools, including Grapevine HS, Birdville HS, and Colleyville Heritage HS.
A graduate of Alvarada High School in Alvarada, Texas, Ms. Burns pursued and completed a Bachelors Degree in Music Education with Teacher Certification from the University of Texas at Arlington. While at UTA, Ms. Burns was Principal Percussionist of the UTA Wind Ensemble, as well as the Marching Percussion Section Leader from 2002 - 2004. She also conducted the UTA Percussion Ensemble and was a featured soloist in 2003.
In addition to her collegiate and high school teaching experience, Ms. Burns has documented over 10 years experience in the Drum Corps and WGI Indoor Percussion activities. She marched with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, DCI World Championship Finalists, in 2001 - 2004, where she marched snare for 3 years, 2 years as drumline section leader, and her final year as Drum Major in 2004. After aging out of the drum corps activity, Ms. Burns was asked to join the percussion staff of the Blue Knights as the snare technician in 2005 and 2006. Her WGI experience includes marching with the Surround Sound Indoor Percussion Ensemble in 1998 and 2003, and as snare technician in 2004 and 2005.
Ms. Burns will work with the junior varsity and varsity percussion ensembles at Martin HS, will conduct the Martin HS Concert Percussion Ensemble, teach beginning / advanced percussion classes well as various sectionals and ensembles at the cluster junior high schools, Young and Boles Junior High.
